Complete History

The birth of Pranami faith in Bermiok, Namphing and Challamthang region took place in the year 1900 by Lt. Dil Das Tamang of Challamthang village of South District. Lt. Dil Das Tamang had a formal learning of the Pranami faith or the Nijanand Sampradaya, a uniquely monotheistic faith leading to Nijanand or Eternal Bliss through the Divine Wisdom of Lord Prannath from Navtanpuri Dham,Jamnagar, Gujarat. The followers of Nijanand faith was growing gradually under the guidance of Lt. Dil Das Tamang. However, it was realized that a common place of worship was in need for the followers to offer prayers, perform kirtans and conduct rituals. Hence a hand written ‘Swaroop Saheb’, one of the most important Holy Scripture of the Pranami faith was donated by the then eleven Bajgai brothers to a small mud-made temple at Challamthang in the year 1961. However, due to scarcity of funds and followers the temple could not be maintained and hence for the common interest the temple was shifted to the residence of Lt. Bishnu Psd. Sharma at Bermiok Tokal, South District. Therefore from the year of 1964 to 1984 all the rituals, prayers and kirtans were conducted in the temple at the residence of Lt. Bishnu Psd. Sharma. The devotees of Pranami faith was growing immensely during the early eighties at Bermiok-Namphing and challamthang neighborhood of south Sikkim. During that period a devout disciple of the Nijanand Sampradaya, Lt. Bishnu Prasad Sharma had a formal learning of the Pranami faith through the mother of 108 Mangal Das Guru Ji, Smt. Narbada Bai and Guru Ji himself. Hence the sundarsath under his guidance and leadership of Lt. Bishnu Prasad Bajgai approached Lt. Rai Bahadur T.D Densapa, commonly known as Athing of Bermiok Tokal for a plot of land to build a small temple. Lt.Rai Bahadur T.D Densapa was a philanthropist and a benevolent soul who donated more than a plot of land at Namphing village to build the temple in the year 1983. The location Namphing was purposely chosen as the temple site as it was centrally located to suffice the needs of the sundarsath mainly of Namphing, Challamthang and Bermiok.

In the same year of 1983 under the guidance of Lt. Bishnu Prasad Bagjai and his eldest son Shr. Hari Krishna Sharma who was also a Panchayat along with a group of sundarsath approached the then Chief Minister of Sikkim Shri. Nar Bahadur Bhandari for financial aid in order to build a temple. A grant of Rs. 5000/- (Rupees five thousand only) was offered by the then Chief Minister of Sikkim to build the temple. Further a contribution was made by the sundarsath of the neighborhood. Eventually a small temple was build and on 04th March of 1984 it was formally inaugurated by the then Chief Minister of Sikkim Lt. Nar Bahadur Bhandari in the presence of 108 Mangal Das Guru Ji. A handwritten compilation of 14 books that consists the revelation of the Vedic scriptures, as well as the description of the supreme abode Paramdhan commonly known as ‘Swaroop Saheb’ was worshipped and placed at the main prayer hall by 108 Mangal Das Guruji. It has been acknowledged that Lt. Bishnu Prasad Bajgai took the consent from Mangal Das Guru Ji that the name of the temple would be in the memory of Mangal Das Guru Ji.

However, a need for a bigger temple was always in demand. Hence in the year 2014 the then Chief Minsiter of Sikkim, Shri. Pawan Chamling sanctioned for a wholly government funded temple to be build in the same location. It took three long years to complete the temple and eventually a grand inauguration of seven days took place from 20th January 2017 to 26th January 2017 in the presence of the then Chief Minister of Sikkim, Shri. Pawan Chamling and Acharaya Shri 108 Krishna Mani Maharaj, Nautan Puri Dham Jamnagar and Acharya Shri. 108 Surya Narayan Maharaj, Maha Managalpuri Dham, Surat, Gujarat.
